How to use this accent letter tool

Click or tap a letter and it is on your clipboard. Paste it with Ctrl + V (Windows, Chromebook) or Command + V (Mac). Each letter you click also drops into the text box at the bottom of the screen, so you can build a whole word such as jalapeño or Zoë and copy it in one go.

Use the search box to find a letter by its mark (type acute, cedilla or caron), tick Capitals to switch to uppercase, or pick a language to see only the letters it uses. Click the large letter on the left of any row for its full page with Alt codes, Mac and Word shortcuts, and Unicode codes.

Types of accent marks

Accent marks are called diacritics. Each one changes how a letter is said or what a word means. These are the ones you will meet most often. Read the names of all accent marks for the full list.

Frequently asked questions

How do I copy an accent letter?

Click or tap the letter. It is copied to your clipboard straight away. Then paste it with Ctrl + V on Windows and Chromebook, Command + V on a Mac, or long-press and Paste on a phone.

Can I copy a whole word with accents?

Yes. Every letter you click is also added to the text box at the bottom of the screen. You can type normal letters in that box too, then press Copy all to copy the whole word or sentence.

What are letters with accents called?

They are called accented letters or letters with diacritics. A diacritic is any mark added to a letter, such as the acute in é, the tilde in ñ or the cedilla in ç.

Will the copied letters work in Word, Google Docs and email?

Yes. The letters are standard Unicode characters, so they paste correctly into Word, Google Docs, Gmail, Outlook, WhatsApp, Instagram and almost any other app. The only exception is a font that does not include the character.

What is the fastest way to type accents without copying?

On Windows, hold Alt and type the code on the number pad, for example Alt + 0233 for é. On a Mac, press and hold the letter and pick the accent. Our keyboard shortcut guide lists every method.
